You can find salmiakki in many shops in Estonia. Maybe not ice cream. But definitely Salmiakki-vodka in many many shops. It is there because Finns buy alcohol from Estonia (its not that common anymore than it was 10 yrs ago).

Water is not always free in Finland. In many restaurants and cafes yes. But then go to night club or bar then they take 2€ or 2,50€... and yes they take water from the tap

It's not a secret that we (estonians) actually hate finnish people since they earn more, their government is better, etc. About the sauna in Estonia - "The first written records of sauna use in Estonia date back to the early 13th century. So it's pretty old.

Finland wakes up in the summer. There are festivals every weekend somewhere, lots of happenings since the summer is short and all the entertainment that requires good weather has to fit in 3 months. I organize events in live music association, out whole idea of existence is to provide live music when there isn't enough, and we don't do anything from may to august. The market is over saturated in the summer, there is simply too much of it. And there is nothing until christmas, and then nothing again until summer.

Some bands skip Finland bc it's easier to do gigs in norway, sweden, and then go to denmark and to germany. Not ferry their shit load of trucks to here. We don't talk to each other that much but one old lady (70 or something) with small dog asked me and my friends: did the stadium burn? that was hilarious.

Good point about Finnish cities being quiet. In winter Lapland is the place to be. In summer the place to be is the center (Lakeland) or the south. I am in the south and my city is dead for 9 months of the year.

it's called Abloy lock and key. It designed that well that can't get in without it. I've traveled much and all locks are shit. Like how can you live with locks what can be easily even by me, unlocked.

Regarding the icecream, if you can find an outdoor icecream kiosk that sells more authentic salmiakki icecream I'm sure you'd love that too, perhaps even more. I know some Italian ice cream stands have liqourice "gelato" which is incredible. (The one I've been to is in Espoo next to Cafe Mellsten) Oh and for the ryebread try Vaasan "ohut herkku Ruispala", they're always really thin (ohut) and soft, and you can find them in pretty much any grocery store. If you lack things to do especially when the weather might be bad, try museums and art galleries or visiting cafes/little boutiques in the nicer areas of Helsinki.

There's no such thing as bad weather, only poor clothing choises ;)

You were here when it was the worst spring in 10 years. And best time to be here is May-Sept. AVOID feb-April like the plague. There is tons to do in Helsinki if you like museums, shopping and outdoors....but like I said may-sept is the sweet spot. Next time when you come go to suomenlinna ("castle of Helsinki"), you can go there on a ferry from kauppatori, Helsinki. You should also see the coutryside, like Seinäjoki, in June when there is Provinssirock festival, you could see the heart of Finnish spirit there. The music, the people and the booze 😂. Hope you come back soon.

Where I visited in Croatia it was very Rocky with cliffs to jump from straight in to the clear ocean and they had very nice Pasta and Pizza. Rented a big house, great time :)

Health care is not free but citizens have a free health insurance from the government. The insurance has some yearly maximum prices for certain things like medications etc

Breathtaking old town. I'm Romanian, I was a child 12 yo during the war, I remeber when my dad said to me "These guys are madmen, they are bombing Dubrovnik, that is a jewel!". I do not think it is important to place blame today, I beleive it's better to enjoy this wonderful scenary under the shade with e beer, and make sure that that kind of war never happens again.

Salmiakki comes in many forms and in many flavors. Everyone will find their own as long as they keep looking. Even from that bag, I always leave the round ones for last because I don't think they're good, but I still eat them sometime later. Rye bread comes in many flavors and shapes. I personally don't like all of them, but there is good bread for everyone. That Ruisrieska was a disappointment for me too, although I like rye bread and flatbread (rieska). The sauna runs will be organized for the 14th time on Saturday 27 July 2024 at Teuva. Volunteers are already being sought for the organization of the event. The event is free (only a €10 parking fee is charged) and intended for the whole family.

Primosten is a lovely town with long beaches. Stop there when you drive north.
